Morocco Sahara Hiking Adventure: 9-Day Trek from Jebel Bani to Erg Chegaga.

Overview:

Embark on a 9-day hiking adventure through the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, with 5 unforgettable days of walking across some of the world’s most breathtaking desert landscapes. This immersive itinerary takes you deep into the golden dunes, across rocky plateaus, and through hidden oases, offering an authentic experience of the Sahara’s raw beauty and timeless culture. Along the way, you’ll connect with local nomadic traditions, discover unique desert flora and fauna, and witness the ever-changing colors of the sand under the African sun. Whether you’re camping under star-studded skies or trekking through silence and solitude, this journey offers a powerful connection to one of the planet’s most awe-inspiring environments.

Day 1:

Arrival at the airport, transfer and overnight at the 3*** hotel in Marrakech.

Day 2: Marrakech or Ouarzazate – Zagora (Elfaïja). 390 km from Marrakech

Transfer by 4x4 or minibus to the starting point of the hike via Tizi-n-Tichka (2260m), the highest road pass, lunch in Ouarzazate, continuation on the Draa Valley known for its beautiful palm groves and its beautiful ksar as well as an amalgam of ethnic, linguistic and historical groups. Arriving in Zagora we will cross a vast plateau leading to the foot of Jbel Bani. (meeting our camel team). Dinner and night at the bivouac.

Day 3: Elfaija – Dyabi Oasis

By a lacerated path, we will cross the pass of Jbel bani fossilized of primary age, panoramic view on the plateau of Elfija. descent in a ravine towards the assif of oumsafi, followed by another rocky plateau with some trees of acacia solitary palm very frequented by nomads. Continuations along the assif to the oasis of Dyabi. Dinner and night at the bivouac. 5 to 6 hours of walking.

Day 4: Dyabi Oasis – Oum El Aleg

Day of walking along the Assif Mhasser, lunar landscape, rudimentary vegetation around, limestone and iron-bearing stones, passing through the nomadic desert sheepfolds, lunch at Amda n'Oumsafy, continuation towards the exit in a semi-plateau of acacia. dinner and night in Oum El Aleg. 4 to 5 hours of walking.

Day 5: Oum El Aleg – Chegaga dunes

Continue walking in the plateau of acacia and other desert plants, rocky and sandy terrain, in the afternoon we will begin to cross small sand dunes along the wadi covered by the Calotropis plant (endemic), we arrive at the foot of the dunes of chegaga, watch the sunset. dinner and night at the foot of the dunes. 4 to 5 hours of walking.

Day 6: Chegag Dune – Bouguerne Dune

Let's leave the dunes of Chegaga, and start walking on a plateau topped with a small hill, leaving the continuity of the dunes on our right. Let's cross the Laatach wadi covered by large tamarisk trees. Then we will walk on a very large plateau (REG) towards the dunes of Bouguerne. Dinner and night at the foot of the large dune of Bouguernes. Watch the sunset. 5 to 6 hours of walking.

Day 7: Bouguerne dune – Oued Naam

We will cross a series of rocky plateau and small dunes to the next bivouac at Oued Naam covered by dunes. Dinner and night at the bivouac.

Day 8: Oued Naam – Ouarzazate/Marrakech

Transfer by 4x4 or minibus to Marrakech via Ouled Driss Zagra, possibility to visit the potters' village in Tamgroute, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Marrakech. Night at the 3-star hotel in Marrakech.

Departure transfer
